5 Questions with Phyllis Patek

Phyllis Patek has spent the last twenty-five years mastering Austin. As a million dollar producer, she takes great pride in her dedication to real estate and her clients, and specializes in Westlake, Rollingwood, Tarrytown, Pemberton, Bee Caves, and Lakeway. We sat down with Patek to learn more about how her background, business model and business partner have been imperative to her success in the Austin real estate market.

Before moving into real estate, you spent 10 years in the corporate world with one of the leading advertising and marketing companies in Austin. What knowledge did you gain from that experience that has been beneficial to your clients?

I learned so much about marketing, specifically online marketing, which has been a huge bonus when I’m listing homes. I know what marketing works best for my client’s home. I love getting to bring that into my real estate career.

You and your family call Westlake home. Tell us why you’ve chosen to raise your family in this pocket of Austin.

I grew up in the small town of Rockport, TX  and have always loved the water. The love of Lake Austin is what drew me initially to Westlake after graduating from the University of Texas in 1996. I lived on Lake Austin for many years before my husband and I purchased a home overlooking the Lake in 2010 and started our family. The stunning views of the rolling hills and the ever-changing skyline still leaves me in awe at times. We feel we have the peacefulness of a small-town environment tucked into the serene hillside only minutes from everything great that Austin has to offer. Although it’s not what initially drew me to the Westlake area, the Eanes Independent School District has been amazing and is one of the top public school districts in the country.

As a million dollar producer, consistent referrals and repeat clients have been the backbone of your business. What do you think has set you apart?

Real estate is not only my profession, but it’s my passion. Buying or selling a home can be a stressful process. I pride myself on taking some of that stress away from the process. I am detail oriented, honest and I feel I have the best negotiating skills for my clients, and I do it with the highest level of integrity. I love the smile on my clients’ faces when I find them the perfect home and the delight of my sellers when we close a transaction with little to no stress. Although I would like to take all the credit, I have been blessed with one of the best business partners in the world, Teresa Jones. Together, we each have 2 boys in the age range of 10, 9, 7, and 6. With Teresa living in Rollingwood and myself in Westlake, we can see not only what our adult clients want, but what do our clients with children or without children want out of two of the greatest neighborhoods in Austin. With 20+ years of living in multiple zip codes across Austin, we look forward to serving our clients. With our long term knowledge of the entire city of Austin, and its future changes in each area, we know we can place our clients in the right neighborhood or condo that fits their need but, most importantly, their lifestyle and culture.

Having lived in Austin for 25 years, tell us some of your favorite places to go in town.

My family and I enjoy Lake Austin, Town Lake, the Hike & Bike Trails, Zilker Park, the new public library, the Alamo Drafthouse and all the great restaurants. Taco Deli is my favorite breakfast spot (I’ve known Roberto for years), True Foods is my go-to for lunch and Uchi is my favorite for dinner.

What excites you most about being in the Austin real estate industry?

There are so many things that excite me about the Austin Real Estate market. Austin is one of the fastest growing cities in country and we have a very strong economy. We are surrounded by some of the best entrepreneurs, working professionals and talent in the country. Meeting new incoming strangers from Texas or out-of-state and helping them feel like they are home and welcomed brings me joy. I love the hunt of finding the perfect property for my clients on and off the market and I love working with my sellers to get them top dollar for their home. I cannot wait to see what is going to be built next in this thriving town of Austin.
