5 Questions with Kathleen Bucher

We caught up with Kathleen to find out more about the woman who has not only built her business on trust, dedication and uncompromising service, but who donates a percentage of every commission she receives to help fund the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.
You’ve been selling real estate since 1991. Tell us about the different market changes you’ve experience throughout the years.
The Real Estate Market always has its ebbs and flows and it usually goes in 7 year cycles of ups and downs. We have, fortunately, been in about an 8 year upswing here in Austin, which has been great. Good news in Austin too is that we do not have the drastic upswings and downswings that places like California experience so our market tends to have a longer term stability than those types of markets. Even when the market is not soaring, homes sell and it’s all about how and who markets them and what price they are selling for. During down markets, my team and I still do great as that is the time when people really need to use a qualified, experienced agent who can help them navigate the process.
Most of your business comes from repeat customers and referrals. Tell us a little about that.
I am so fortunate that the majority of my business is from referrals and past clients. It is such a compliment to have that type of business; you know it is coming from people who really know the value of working with someone who has done a great job for them in the past and that it’s someone they trust. Some agents are just transactional-based meaning they just want to go from one deal to the next with little regard to their clients. I am 100% relationship-based, which means I care about each client and what their needs are; that is what drives me. I have always felt that if you come from a place of contribution, your business and lives will thrive.
You have a large luxury team. How does that affect the way you’re able to assist clients?
My team of professionals all have their specialty and focus on what they do best. As a single agent, I can only do so much. If you are on your own and have too many balls in the air, you are likely to drop many of them. I specialize in working directly with my clients, overseeing the marketing, showings and negotiations on each transaction, while my team works on implementing all the marketing and doing all the behind the scenes detail work, which can be a lot in a real estate transaction. I spend my time doing what I do best and what will best benefit my clients, while my team does what they do best in supporting me. It is a great synergy and my clients benefit by getting a team of professionals as opposed to one agent trying to keep a ton of balls juggling in the air.
You’ve been named “Residential Real Estate Top Producer” and are in the top 1% of your industry. What sets you apart from other real estate agents and enables you to receive these recognitions?
I run my real estate business like a business. I have systems and check lists in place that are fully automated, detailed marketing objectives and budget, local and global networking, and local, national and international knowledge of the various markets. All of these things give me the professional edge that sets me apart from other agents. My team of professionals support all of these systems and marketing so, in the end, my clients are the ones who benefit. My first priority is always my clients’ needs and customer service so their real estate experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Why are non-profits and charities important to you, and which ones are you involved with?
I am a big believer in: “I live here so I give here.” Austin is my home and my husband and I have been fortunate enough to raise our 5 kids here. Being able to help and support others less fortunate than ourselves by working with non-profits and charity organizations has always been a part of our family’s life. I have served on many committees, boards and volunteered through the years for numerous different organizations such as National Cancer Society, CASA, Foundation Communities, Ronald McDonald House, Teen and Family Services, Keystone APG, The Refuge, Eanes Educational Foundation, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and many others. I feel that giving back to others not only helps fill their needs and their hearts but it fills my heart tenfold too.
