5 Questions with Morgan Smith

Exceeding expectations while maintaining a high level of integrity is what Austin Portfolio Real Estate agent Morgan Smith does best. With over 15 years of experience in the luxury market, she works tirelessly to produce solid results for her clients. After helping a team in Dallas grow from $25 million to over $100 million in just a few short years, Morgan joined forces with close friend Shannon Schmitz to establish The Schmitz & Smith Group.

We caught up with Morgan to find out more about her team, passions and how she enjoys all that Austin has to offer.

Tell us how the Schmitz & Smith Group came to be.

Shannon and I became friends 20 years ago and got our licenses at the same time. I lived in Dallas and sold for 2 top teams while Shannon was producing at a high level in Austin on her own. When I moved back to Austin 7 years ago, we thought it would be great to team up.  Shannon has serious drive and I had experience with running big teams so we thought it would be a great fit for our vision of growth. Having a team and hanging our license with Keller Williams is great because they let you have flexibility to realize your vision.

What do you enjoy the most about working in real estate and the Austin market specifically?

Moving back to Austin was an eye-opening experience. I left during the BOOM and really had no idea how much my little ATX had grown. Admittedly, the task of learning the Austin market was a bit daunting but so much more interesting than selling in the ‘burbs of Dallas. Austin has a lot of culture and it attracts educated and cool people. I think that is what I have most enjoyed about my job. I am proud of my town; it is a blast to get to sell here and place people where they belong.

Your team frequently hosts client appreciation events. Can you tell us more about the most recent one and the charity that you partnered with?

Our latest event was a “Yappy Hour” where we met at the Austin Beer Garden with clients and their dogs. This event supported Austin Pets Alive, an animal shelter that promotes and provides the resources, education and programs designed to save companion animals most at-risk for euthanasia. We did a Facebook live event and our host interviewed all of the dogs! It was pretty cute.

Outside of real estate, what activities do you enjoy?

I live very close to Lady Bird Lake and Trail so one of my favorite things to do is walk my dogs around the lake; getting onto the trails really clears my mind. With so many outdoor spaces that Austin offers, I enjoy getting out and about to explore them all. Reading, yoga, working out and a good happy hour on our many gorgeous patios are also favorite pastimes. Most of all though, I love to travel; I work hard and I play hard.

Since you love to travel, can you tell us where your favorite vacation spot has been?

I la-la-la-LOVE Mexico! I have discovered a small town just north of Tulum that I love to visit. A gorgeous beach, refreshing centotes nearby and, most importantly, it is low key. My job is high-stress so I love looking at the ocean to bring me back to health and nature.
