Texas transplants, James Plate and his family relocated to Austin from the Lake Tahoe area of Northern Nevada to enjoy all that Austin and the Hill Country has to offer and now James makes it a point to share his enthusiasm for the area with his clients.
He has vast experience in business as an entrepreneur, having been the president of an agribusiness-based sales and marketing company in California for many years before entering the real estate industry, with a concentration on marketing luxury properties in Incline Village, Lake Tahoe and the neighboring area.
James prides himself on his integrity, work ethic, and effective communication and negotiating skills. He has always measured success not merely by the number of transactions, but by the continued relationships that he has retained with his clients. He also believes that real estate is not only about business; it also involves creativity to market a property aimed to reach the appropriate pool of buyers as well as having the intuition to know what the client is searching for even when they haven’t articulated it.
For many years, as a child and adult, he resided in the San Francisco suburb of Atherton, which is now home to many of the top executives of Silicon Valley. His family owned and operated a 1,400 acre cattle ranch in Northern California’s Mendocino County where he learned about ranching alongside his father as a young child and eventually shared management duties as an adult. Splitting time between an urban and rural environment shaped his outlook on life and lifestyle to this day.
Husband to wife, Kimberley and father to their young twins, Milena and Matthew, he feels the experience he has garnered from his personal life and his varied interests have been equally essential to his career and connecting with clients. When not in “business mode” he enjoys time with his family, caring for their two dogs and four horses, playing one of his many guitars, cooking, taking photographs, and when time permits, playing tennis and skiing. He and Kimberley enjoy writing songs together and have frequented Nashville to network with songwriters and recording artists.
