We hear you have a keen sense of style when it comes to interior design. What trends are you currently enjoying?
I like seeing the re-imagined luxe styles of the 1970’s: exotic woods, complex geometric shapes, and rich blues, golds, and cranberry upholstery. Also, I feel like I’m seeing lighter walls come back into design: the “builder-beige” look is being replaced with fresher, lighter whites.
With over 24 years of experience in residential real estate sales in Dallas and Austin, what can you share about the next 12 months in the Austin market?
Experts are confidently predicting that the strong economy we have enjoyed for so long will continue at least for the next 12-18 months. We know that it will slow down at some point and in the $1-3 million price range, we have seen buyers looking longer, and negotiating prices more aggressively than in recent years. For sellers, that means pricing ahead of the market, not chasing it.
Reviewing testimonials from your former clients, one phrase is seen often: “keen sense of customer service.” What do you do for your clients to make sure they’re given the white glove service?
The main thing I can do for my clients is communicate with them at their preferred pace and detail. I clearly state my marketing plans and timing upfront, so everyone is on the same page as we move forward. Also, I work hard to respond quickly to messages, and to provide results and feedback to sellers quickly after a showing. You’d think these things would be standard, but these practices and client references have been the defining factors when I’ve competed for and prevailed at listing appointments. Additionally, I am available to solve problems and answer questions before they arise, as in assisting with repair bids, suggesting solutions for problems that arise with inspections, and heading off closing or financing problems with oversight, educated forecasting, and most importantly, thorough communication.
As an Austin native, what keeps you “in love” with this city?
This list has changed for me over time as you might imagine, but what I love most today is that I find that people here are generally happy to live here -or to be moving here- and to be raising their kids here. Being in a city with that feeling of pride and satisfaction is definitely a gift.
Thorough and tenacious are two words you use to describe yourself. Where do you think you developed those traits?
I am lucky to come from a family of hard-working people. I learned early that hard work was the pathway to successful results. I worked full-time to pay for college. When I became a Realtor® in 1994, the market was slow and sellers were on edge. My mentor, Dave Perry-Miller in Dallas, TX, taught me the value of providing first-class service in every way, not only to clients, but also to our colleagues within the industry. Those very colleagues I met 24 years ago in Dallas refer 20-30% of my business here in Austin today, and they’re still counted as some of my closest friends!
