5 Questions with Shannon Schmitz
As one of Austin’s top luxury real estate agents, Shannon Schmitz has achieved a reputation for providing her clients an incredible marketing platform, strong network, and knowledgeable integrity. After 15 years of working as an individual agent, she and close friend Morgan Smith joined forces nearly 6 years ago to establish The Schmitz & Smith Group.
We caught up with Shannon to find out more about her team, passions and what she enjoys the most about living and working in the Live Music Capital of the World.
Tell us about the Schmitz & Smith Group and how it came to be.
Morgan and I have been friends for over 20 years and both got into the business around the same time. She started in Dallas and I started here in Austin 19 years ago. When she moved back to Austin 7 years ago, we began talking about creating a team. She had run a team in Dallas and taken her Rainmaker from doing 20 Million a year to over 100 Million in a 5 year period. I wanted to tap into that vast knowledge and see where we could grow! When Keller Williams opened Austin Portfolio Real Estate we both knew that this was the place to build a team. We began our journey almost 6 years ago!
You weren’t born in Texas. What brought you to the Lone Star State and caused you to call Austin home?
True, I wasn’t born and raised in Austin TX. I had moved in the late 80’s to California where I met my husband. In 1996, he was transferred to Austin. After 6 months, we knew this would be the place we call home. The people were so friendly, it fit us to a “T.”
Tell us what you enjoy the most about being a “matchmaker” here in Austin?
There is nothing better than finding the perfect spot to land for your clients. Moving to Austin is totally about the kind of lifestyle you want to live. I enjoy learning what is important to you and finding where you can best live that lifestyle.
Outside of real estate, what activities do you enjoy?
I love to walk and run with my dog. We live right by the greenbelt so we spend a lot of time hiking there. I love to run Lady Bird Lake and look forward to more of that when the temperatures cool off. I also enjoy cooking great food – I guess that is why I am active.
I also want to die with a passport full of stamps. I am always ready and willing when the chance to travel comes around. There’s nothing better than to explore the world and see other parts of the world.
You and your team are passionate about volunteering. Tell us about the organizations where you volunteer and why you’re so passionate about them.
